HAPPY JULY 4TH!
ALL THE NEWS THAT IS NEWS
SAD NEWS ABOUT LACY At 9.5 years old, Lacy now has hip problems that senior Akita doggies experience. The other morning when Lacy and I go out for her walk after we get down the stairs all she wants to do is sit. When we go back up the stairs she cannot make the last two steps. I pull and pull with all my might and she makes it to the top floor. She lies down on the kitchen floor in front of her new 20” box fan. After an hour she is back to her old self. She can walk on the flat surface but the stairs now are almost impossible for her. Very early Monday morning when we go outside she does OK going down the stairs but this time her Akita stubbornness causes her to pull against me on the leash. She refuses to try to go up the stairs! Here we are at 3 am stuck at the bottom the stairs and no way to get Lacy up the stairs back inside her home! She weighs 100lbs. She lies down for about 20 or 30 more minutes and we try to climb the stairs again. We make it to the last two steps but she cannot make it any farther. I have to hold on tight to keep her from falling down the stairs! I lean back and pull and pull and pull she tries but cannot move up those final two steps! Wow! We finally get her up on the top floor! Do not know what we are going to do. If I take her to the vet we cannot afford hip surgery for her. Next time will need someone to help get Lacy up the stairs. But there is no one available. Lacy is the most precious and sweet doggie in existence. She does not deserve to go through this. She needs hip surgery but we do not have a dime to pay for it. What are we going to do? We sure can use your help with the vet bill. For our home address please send us an email at Rosekkkj@earthlink.net. Thank you.

MCHALE’S NAVY CO-STAR FALLS VICTIM From October 11, 1962 to its final episode on April 12, 1966 we really enjoy McHale’s Navy about the misadventures of a PT Boat misfit crew during World War II. Lt. Commander Quinton McHale (Ernest Borgnine), Captain Wallace B. Binghamton (Joe Flynn), Ensign Charles Parker (Tim Conway) and bumbling yes-man Lt. Carpenter (Bob Hastings) delight us TV viewers. Allison Knowles, says her grandfather, Bob Hastings, dies at 89 on Monday, June 30, 2014 in his Burbank, CA home after a lengthy battle with prostate cancer. Bob also appears in All in the Family and General Hospital. We also remember Hastings in The Phil Silvers Show and The Dukes of Hazzard.
TX TALK RADIO PIONEER EXPIRES During the 1980s and 1990s Carl Wiglesworth is a high-profile Talk radio personality on WOAI-1200 in San Antonio. In 1999, he becomes even more famous when he quits WOAI-1200 on the air with a rant against the state of the talk radio business. Carl’s self-imposed departure from corporate radio more than a decade ago is a severe loss for our industry. Talkers publisher Michael Harrison remembers: Carl Wiglesworth was in a league of his own in terms of his courage, independence, preparedness, localness and authenticity. The Telcom Law of 1996 destroys many radio careers. On Tuesday, July 1, 2014 Carl Wiglesworth dies at 73 from a massive heart attack that he suffers on Friday and he never regains consciousness.
TRIVIA QUESTION: Who is Bill Black? The answer appears below.

PAT MCGOWAN [Engineer-In-Charge NCP SS-4 New Century Productions] (Chandler, AZ) Subject: Sad news about Lacy… Oh Jim, I am so very sorry to hear this sad news. I know how very important she is to you. How old is she? Large dogs don’t stay with us as long as smaller ones. Our daffy, dumb but so lovable Dalmatian Sarah had much the same issue at 13.5. Also “canine cognitive disorder” aka Doggie Dementia. Meds helped for awhile. Don’t know anything that will help with the loss of strength in the back legs, that’s just old doggie age. Consult your Vet, and though it’s tough, do what is best for the Pup. Best, Patrick J McGowan; EIC | NEP US Mobile Units (www.nepinc.com)

DR. JEFF CUNNINGHAM [ex KXOL-1360] (Austin-Kyle, TX) Jim, we have lost a San Antonio icon in Carl Wigglesworth. I worked with him at WOAI in the 80’s and he was always a professional toward me with an excellent ability to connect with the public but also to maintain his principles and stances. (www.mysanantonio.com/news/local/article/San-Antonio-radio-host-Carl-Wiglesworth-dead-at-73-5595154.php) Jeff Cunningham, DC, MA; Kyle, TX
SAM LEE [ex KLIF-1190] (Beverly Hills, CA) Subject: Sad news about Lacy… I’m sorry Lacy has so many issues. It’s age, and age does that to all in the animal kingdom. What I do in situations like this is lay hands on the affected area, pray and speak words of healing, let the vibration energy of the creator of the universe do its work. Or, you can call your vet, and ask him/her, to do a work of kindness since you are unable to pay. Hope this helps. GARY DELAUNE [ex KLIF-1190 news/KENS TV CH 5 Sports Director] (San Antonio, TX) Subject: Sad news about Lacy… Jim; If others will put something in the pot, I’ll contribute 50 dollars and if I could, I’d put in on my credit card but like you, being a dog lover, we just paid out $2,800 for our teacup Yorkie, which has given her new life. Then, a dip into savings for dental work on my wife which is more than $3,800. But if others can help, I will as well. Have you contacted the Harris Co. Humane Society…they often have vets who are a lot less expensive. How about someone still in local media contacting them for you. Let me know. Gary DeLaune I give you permission to make an appeal on Jim Rose Remembers. (www.garydnews.com)

JAY WEAVER [KCUL-1540/KBUY-1540/KPCN-730] (DFW-Hurst, TX) Subject: Sad news about Lacy girl! Jim – I think I would call the local SPCA office and tell them your problem. Maybe they know a Doctor who will volunteer his services to at least find out what is wrong with her. At least at that time you then know how you stand in this situation. I don’t remember how old she is, but if she is less than 8 or 10 years of age, you might find some help with minor surgery, if needed. See how that goes, Jim. Maybe you can find compassionate some help. I know she is your world. They need to know that. Jay
TRIVIA ANSWER: In July 1954, Sam Phillips owner of Sun Records asks Bill Black and Scotty Moore to play back-up for his new unknown singer Elvis Presley. Black plays slap bass while Scotty is the guitarist. The trio record a Rocking Blues song called That’s All Right (Mama) which becomes Elvis Presley’s first Sun records release. Later, Black forms Bill Black’s Combo and records 8 hits that include Smokie, White Silver Sands and Josephine. On November 21, 1965 Bill Black dies at 39 from a brain tumor.
JIM SPUR [ex Bob Green Prods/ABC/KXYZ] (Houston, TX) Subject: Sad news about Lacy girl… So very sorry to hear this, having gone through the same with my two Japanese Chins a few years back. I hope for the best for Lacy and a strong heart for you. I haven’t much but I am sending a small amount to contribute to her care right away. I hope others will do the same. Jim S
