GLEN ASHWORTH (Lebanon, OR) Subject: Jack Riley. Jim One thing that wasn’t mentioned in the article about the passing of Jack Riley was that was part (for a time) the Dick Orkin Radio Ranch. Along the late great Pat McCormick. Alot of great spots came that studio.

LIZ PATRANELLA [Liz Houston – KTSA-550, KBAT-680] (Austin, TX) Subject: Joe Nasty Passes. I had only those two stations (KITY and KTFM) listed on the roster. I usually get that information from the person on the list. I only include S.A. stations though. Trey said he thinks Dennis was around 60. I have no additional information. If I hear more, I’ll let you know. Liz
JAY WEAVER [KLBK-1360 Lubbock/KCUL-1540 Fort Worth/KPCN-730 Grand Prairie/KBUY-1540 Fort Worth] (DFW-Hurst, TX) Subject: Jim Thomas. Subject: Jim Thomas. Yes, Sir – that’s exactly what has happened. In Dallas/Fort Worth, or as I like to put it – Fort Worth/Dallas, there are NO stations playing 50’s or 60’s music, no stations playing Classic Country, no stations playing Jazz, no stations playing Blues or Rhythm and Blues and only one playing any type Adult Standards, i.e., 40’s and 50’s. I’m talking about the WHOLE dial, AM and FM. Now occasionally you’ll get lucky and hear something you recognize. The rest are playing the numbers game. Gone are the real radio stations with real air personalities. KLUV throws a few “Oldies” in occasionally and plays a few on week-ends, but not enough to claim they are true oldies. KVIL has jocks doing five hour air shifts! I know only a few people left “on air” in D/FW and even if I knew more I wouldn’t know them – they use the first names only! “Hi this is Jay and I’ll be voice tracking for you for the next seven hours – please join me! I’ll guess at the time for you and sometimes, if I’m lucky, I can get the outside temperature right.” Jay Weaver
TRIVIA ANSWER: On August 21 1935 the Benny Goodman Orchestra plays a concert that many consider to be the beginning of The Swing Era. Millions of radio listeners coast-to-coast hear the band’s lively performance at the Palomar Ballroom in Los Angeles, CA.
KEN DOWE [CEO Service Broadcasting #1 KKDA FM (104.5) / EVP McLendon Corp. #1 KLIF-1190] (Dallas, TX) I have to be candid and report that I often get quite upset as those who were non-players, or on the periphery during radio’s greatest days, inflate their own importance when usually they were but shadows on the Hall of Fame. And, when they take undeserved credit, or tell untrue tales that defile deserving individuals, they steal real memories and accomplishments. Whomever told Dan that corrupted story is a real putz.
DAVY CROCKETT (August 17, 1786 – March 6, 1836) There ain’t no ticks like poly-ticks. Bloodsuckers all.
