BOB MILLER [Professor East MI U] (Detroit-Plymouth, MI) Subject: Ferguson Missouri. Hi Jim and Suzie, Charles Barkley made a lot of sense with his take on the Ferguson case. And in the spirit of parsimony, I wouldn’t blame the cops there if they all walked off the job. Apparently, facts don’t matter to the protesters. Bob Miller; Plymouth, MI

DON SUNDEEN [DJ/Hi Records promotion/TV ad production] (Dallas, TX) Subject: Claire Barry, Half of Yiddish Singing Duo, Dies at 94. This is an act I cannot comment on, nor provide music for, because their time was before mine and that’s really saying something. However, I found the Barry sister’s story fascinating and it’s getting close to Hanukkah. But that sure looks like a fake Christmas tree that they’re singing to, or maybe it’s an early version of the “Hanukkah Bush.” You can’t get this kind of information anywhere else. Claire Barry, Half of Yiddish Singing Duo, Dies at 94 By JOSEPH BERGER NOV. 30, 2014 Before the Andrews Sisters turned “Bei Mir Bist du Schön” into an enduring standard, another sister act, Claire and Merna Barry, was already singing jazzy versions of Yiddish chestnuts. They continued doing so for over 40 years, not just becoming darlings of the Catskills, Miami Beach and other Jewish entertainment outposts but also crossing over to Las Vegas and variety landmarks like “The Ed Sullivan Show.” (http://www.nytimes.com/2014/12/01/arts/music/claire-barry-half-of-yiddish-singing-duo-dies-at-94-.html)
WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ABOUT TODAY’S RADIO? WHERE IS RADIO HEADED? We want to know what is on your mind. Let’s start a radio revolution. Give us your opinion about today’s radio or whatever is on your mind at Rosekkkj@earthlink.net.
JACK PARNELL [ex WHBQ-560 PD/DJ] (Memphis, TN) Subject: Where is radio headed? Jim: I believe radio will go down to the point that many stations will sell, while others will go dark, and the “new beginning” will be when people who are genuinely interested in radio as an entertainer/informer/community servant first, and secondly, IF it makes a profit, even better (remember back when the FCC described that as what ALL radio stations should be?). The owners will discover that they can’t be all things to all people, so they’ll “ease” from the block programming to playing what they themselves like. When they discover that not many like the same things they do, they’ll “ease” over into another format. This will keep going until they decide that maybe they should do what the listeners really want, so a format will win out. They’ll do it, hire air PERSONALITIES who know and CARE ABOUT what they’re doing, and there’ll be success. All the while they’ll remain solid members of the community and serve them well…UNTIL it reaches the point at which money is the most important radio feature, and then sales will come before programming, and it’ll begin to sink again! When? about 30 or so years from now. Jack Parnell-a former jock who remembers community service, and a time when “if the programming is right, the money will come”.
TRIVIA ANSWER: Before she enrolls in hairdressing school, Marie McDonald McLaughlin Lawrie joins the 6-piece band The Gleneagles as their peppy lead singer. The group’s manager begins to refer to her as a lulu of a kid. So, Lulu sticks as a more memorable stage name. In 1967, we spin Lulu’s #1 hit tune from the movie of the same name To Sir With Love on WFAA-820 in Dallas, TX.
CHARLES GEORGE [ex KCHU FM] (Dallas, TX) I thought a good teacher is worth having, but don’t really have the patience, since when I tell people things they don’t seem to listen, another comes along and tells them and they go, “I never thought about it like that!” thought I was good at Chess I won a couple of tournaments in High School, but when I went to ETSU, Commerce…entered a tournament and did not even win a game and was eliminated the first night of three nights…knew Chess was not going to be a career for me after all…started drawing on my computer. May not be great art, I was told the computer will never do art…sending some of my creations anyway…find I can’t remember yesterday or even last week what I did, but can remember things I did in 1966 and 1968, etc. Charles George KC5RAI
JAMES M. BARRIE (May 9, 1860 to June 19, 1937) God gave us memory so that we might have roses in December.
