ROBERT MILLER [Eastern Michigan University Professor] (Detroit/Plymouth, MI) Hi Jim and Suzie I have made it through another Michigan winter with weather that tests my endurance. The weather is now warming and I am heading back home to San Antonio for a couple of weeks. I love the people, the food, the hill country, bbq, tex mex and most of all-the weather. Any of your readers want to recommend a good place for a chicken fried steak? In Michigan they just look at you funny when you say that but I forgive them. 25 below zero makes your mind numb. Bob Miller Adjunct Professor of Communication KBUC, KSAT, WJKC-FM, WSTX, WHOA and some more I can’t recall at the moment.

GARY DELAUNE [KLIF-1190-CH 5 KENS TV] (San Antonio, TX) Subject: I remember them well. This maybe too long but I remember it all too well. JIM; The recent riots in Ferguson and Baltimore trigger a bad reminder of the riots in Houston in the late 1960’S. There was a tragic event at Texas Southern University on Wheeler Avenue. Before that night, Stokely Carmichael was at the U of H and he looked at me and the only other two white newsmen covering the event. He said…”And we’re going to get you honkey…and you honkey…” We picked up our recorders and left Cullen Auditorium quickly. Later, police were called to TSU after a reported shooting on campus. A cordon of Houston police officers moved in from the ad. building. A few newsmen were in the police group…An officer in front of me was hit between the eyes and dropped dead…another behind me was shot in the face. I hit the pavement quickly and stayed down. No one was arrested and the guns were passed through the attic of the girl’s dorm. Police Chief Herman Short and Mayor Louie Welch did a good job of preventing a major riot. Louis Kuba and Paul Archer were the cops. I’ll never forget their names… (www.garydnews.com)

BEN HAROLD [ex KXOL-1360/KBUY-1540/WBAP-820/KENR-1070] (Knoxville, TN) I remember that before I came back to KXOL-1360 for the second time, I was news director at KBUY (1540) – BEFORE going to WBAP-820 and then returning to KXOL-1360. I went through two format changes at XOL. but your photo (along with the other dj’s) was always on the wall in the reception area on west 7th street both times I was there. scott reese has some black and white photos of a lot of us together at some KXOL-1360 event. I used to have them on an old computer, years ago, before it crashed. we all used to be so young, back then, and we have lost so many of our friends along the way. pet Suzie for me and take care! Ben
