TRUCKER’S RADIO VOICE MAKES LAST RUN In April 1955, radio DJ Hall of Fame inductee Larry Scott begins his long career on KBTN-1420 in Neosho, MO. Larry is one of radio’s good guys. He takes his special radio style all across America on legendary radio frequencies. In the 1990s when Larry is all night trucker DJ on 50,000 watt clear channel KWKH-1130 Shreveport, LA he often puts my telephone voice on the air. So very sad to report that our friend Larry Scott passes away at 77 on July 10, 2016 in Oak Ridge, TX.

THE THREE BROWNS NOW ARE ONE On July 31, 1938 Bonnie Jean Brown is born. She joins her older siblings Jim Ed and Maxine as The Browns. During the 1950s, The Browns. are on The Louisiana Hayride and Ozark Jubilee plus they tour with a young Elvis Presley. In 1959, The Browns most popular single The Three Bells lasts 10 weeks as #1 Country. On Saturday afternoon, July 16, 2016 Country Music Hall of Fame member Bonnie Brown passes away at 77 in Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock, AR.
YAHOO! SPORTS RADIO IS NO MORE On August 20, 2007 Harvard graduate David Gow flips KILE-1560 Port Lavaca, TX to Sports KGOW-1560 to become Yahoo! Sports Radio. Four years later he takes over Sporting News Radio network which adds 150+ radio stations nationwide. In 2012 he buys The Sports Flash Radio Network to become a part of Yahoo Sports Radio’s programming. In partnership with Vox Media, Yahoo! Sports Radio will soon be known as SB Nation Radio.
RADIO STATION OWNER NEEDS KIDNEY Danny Lee original owner/operator of WXRT FM (93XRT) Chicago, IL who suffers from kidney failure due to chemotherapy to treat esophageal cancer needs a kidney donor to save his life. We humans come with two kidneys but we can survive with just one. Neither one of Lee’s kidneys properly function any longer. Northwestern Hospital in Chicago approves Lee as a kidney recipient. LYNN WOOLLEY [KTEM-1400 Talk host, former KRLD-1080, WFAA-570, KNOW-1490] (Temple-Killeen–Fort Hood, TX) Subject: Tom Marr. He later became a talk show host. Prior to joining WCBM, Marr worked at WFBR (now WJZ-AM) as a reporter and news director. While there, he also served as part of the Baltimore Orioles play-by-play team for a number of years. WCBM program director Sean Casey says, “He helped to build this news/talk radio station into the force that it is today. He had a successful career while informing and entertaining listeners in Baltimore and worldwide.” Talkers publisher Michael Harrison issued the following statement: “All of us at Talkers are devastated over the loss of our dear friend and broadcasting treasure, Tom Marr. Tom was one of the true greats and a perennial member of the Heavy Hundred. His accomplishments in radio go back well before the modern era of talk radio that he played such an important role in building. He was an outstanding, kind, compassionate man who cared deeply about his fellow human beings. The radio industry has lost one of its greatest players.” Marr is survived by his wife Sharon, five children and 10 grandchildren.

GAIL SCOTT [Larry’s wife] (Dallas-Terrell, TX) Larry Scott was born September 27th, 1938. He was called home to glory shortly after midnight July 10, 2016 in Kaufman County, TX . as a young boy growing up in Southwestern, MO listened to live broadcasts from Pappy O’Daniel’s Light Crust Dough Boys, Bob Wills and The Texas Playboys. his first radio job at KBTN in 1954 at the age of 16 in Neosho, MO. came to KBOX in Dallas in 1966 to make it the first 24 hour country music station in the DFW metroplex. While at KLAC he started the first all night Interstate road show the Phantom 570 club in 1975. In 1979 Metro Media sent him to Dallas to KRLD. Mike Oatman called to KWKH in Shreveport, LA. He continued the all night interstate road show for 14 years. In late 1998, he went to another Great Empire Broadcasting Station, KVOO Tulsa. He recorded syndicated shows from his studio at his Lucky G Studio. In 1984 he inducted into the Country Music Disc Jockey Hall of Fame in Nashville, In 1999 The Texas Country Music Hall of Fame, The Academy of Western Artists, The Texas Western Swing Hall of Fame, The Texas Gospel Music association Hall of Fame 2007. He was a gentle a kind man, great husband, wonderful father and most important a devout Christian. “so until the next time we meet have a great day, Goodnight and God Bless.”
