ALL THE NEWS THAT IS NEWS
OFF TO TARGET FOR FLOOD MATERIALS Nice female Target courtesy clerk swaps old black Mag Light flashlight for stainless steel chrome LED Mag Light. Some of our main streets, entrances and exits still closed. Streets with expensive homes remain flooded. Thank God! Our part of Memorial Drive West plus our street Bateswood Drive are open. Traffic heavy with Memorial Drive’s barricades but we make it back home safely. A short, friendly female asks if we need help. She keeps saying You have beautiful hair! Tell her that I am almost 74 years old.

LEYKIS VICTIMS OF RADIO Many of us radio vets wonder how some radio people seem to last forever while the rest of us clamor for our next radio position. Talk personality Tom Leykis may have the answer. Dr. Drew KROQ FM Los Angeles, CA admits CBS hasn’t been paying him: I’ve been doing it for free for a couple of years. Longtime food show host on KNX-1070 Los Angeles Melinda Lee sobs: Merry Christmas! Now, find a new job! We’re replacing you with an infomercial! And so it is since the passage of the 1996 Telcom Law.
TRIVIA QUESTION: What is the first NYC station to play Rock & Roll regularly? The answer appears below.

JIM BELL [KUHF FM 88.7 Morning Edition anchor since 1997-retires 2010] (Lufkin, TX) Subject: Amanda Randolph. Hey Jim thanks for spotlighting the great singer-actress Amanda Randolph. She played a lot of “household maid” roles in movies in the 30s and 40s, but with her singing talent she was one of the first black performers to break into TV in the late 40s with her own 15 minute show. That exposure got her into my all-time favorite show Amos and Andy in 1951, playing Sapphire’s mama, the Kingfish’s mother-in-law. Interestingly, her character never had a “name’. Just “Mama”. More trivia: in real life the role of supporting character Madame Queen was played by Lillian Randolph, Amanda Randolph’s sister. Jim Bell – High, Dry and retired in Lufkin

GARY DELAUNE [KYTY-810 – KLIF-1190-CH 5 KENS TV] (San Antonio, TX) Glad you made it through despite the danger and trauma. We’d all be lost if our dog and car were missing. I covered five major hurricanes but they were child’s play in comparison. We did los a news unit coming from Beulah and had to swim for our lives. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and all the victims of Harvey. Now we pray for Floridians. Take care and keep the old gas tank topped off. Come see us. We have a nice back yard and dog run and a spare BR. Gary DeLaune (www.garydnews.com)
AUDREY HEPBURN (May 4, 1929 – January 20, 1993) As you grow older you will discover that you have two hands. One for helping yourself, the other for helping others.
