ALL THE NEWS THAT IS NEWS
COUNTRY MUSIC LEGEND EXPIRES The gentle giant of Country music, Grand Ole Opry star George Hamilton IV, passes away from a heart attack at 77 on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 in a Nashville, TN hospital. You may remember George’s most familiar tune, Abilene, which is #1 for four weeks on Country radio in summer 1966. He has nine Top 10 Country tunes. But my favorite is John Loudermilk-penned A Rose and a Baby Ruth that lands at #6 on the Pop chart in 1956 with sales of over a half million copies. In the liner notes of his 1968 RCA album, The Gentle Country Sound of George Hamilton IV, he writes: Do I have to sing honky-tonk songs about slippin’ around and wear a rhinestone-studded cowboy suit to be real?

SHOCK! FOX REPLACES PAM OLIVER! One of the many wonderful parts we enjoy about NFL football is the foxy (no pun intended) Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders. On the sidelines the only person who catches our eye is foxy (there’s that word again) Fox reporter Pam Oliver. Early Friday morning in our quest for news we discover something that shakes like an earthquake: Fox replaces Pam Oliver with Erin Andrews! This cannot be true! Fox officials give Pam the distressing news about her demotion in person. But they assure her that she will still work the sidelines this fall…with the Fox B-team. Pam sighs: Fox gets its coveted reporter in the lead role and I get to do my sideline job for my twentieth and final year. Did Pam say twentieth and final year?
NFL STILL SUNDAY TV KING NFL games this past Sunday afternoon pretty much hold their own, even dip a bit in comparison to 2013. Two primetime broadcasts indicate just how robust football games can be when they air live in the evening with no other football rivalry. Last week, CBS’ first Thursday night game improves on its 2013 lineup of shindig shows by a massive 234%. On Sunday, NBC’s Sunday Night Football game between the Bears and 49ers skyrocket 2013’s game on the same Sunday by almost 2 million viewers. Both games demonstrate the week’s highest-rated primetime telecasts. This reinforces NFL’s already astronomical cachet as a meal ticket for live event programming.
DON’T BITE THE HAND THAT FEEDS YOU How many entertainers will jump with joy if CBS Sports uses their latest tune in the opening of Thursday Night Football? Well, when CBS Sports decides to eliminate Rihanna’s Run This Town from the opening of last week’s Thursday Night Football broadcast, she makes a harsh and costly Tweet: CBS you pulled my song last week, now you wanna slide it back in this Thursday? Y’all are sad for penalizing me for this. CBS Sports permanently drops Rihanna’s Run This Town from its TNF opening. CBS Sports puts in overtime on new ideas for its Thursday Night Football opening. We fans shout: Bring back Bocephus! Hank Williams, Jr’s opening Are you ready for some football? is the best of them all.
TRIVIA QUESTION: Who is the only musician to ever receive billing on an official Beatles release? The answer appears below.

MARY LYNN KNOCHELMAN [ex WCKY-1530] (Cincinnati, OH) Subject: The Community Where I Live Has It’s Own Radio Station. HI Jim…I keep telling people that I live in Cincinnati, Ohio and my mailing address says I do. But I actually live outside of the city in the county of Hamilton (as is Cincinnati), in a Township called Delhi Township. I’ve lived there for over 26 years. Well the Township has its own radio station which plays music and covers community events. It’s call letters are WDTZ. On my radio it’s 98.1 and promotes itself as Z-98. A Non Profit Radio Station, it was started by Walter Hughes, another Delhi Twp Resident, who had worked as a DJ for 55WKRC and WGRR. “About 13 years ago the FCC opened a window for new low-powered radio stations”, said Hughes. “Last October that window opened in this area, and I thought it would be neat to have a low-powered radio station for Delhi”, Hughes added. So with the help of Delhi Twp. residents Patrick Tierney, Taylor Sunderhaus, and Bob Knue, Hughes applied for a license and was surprised how quickly they got it. “We were the only ones who applied for this frequency. so we were able to get our license fairly quickly”, said Hughes, who goes by “Wally J” on the air. Because it is Non Profit he and the other DJ’s volunteer their time. The station, which operates out of a shopping center store-front studio, plays music from the 1980’s Mon-Sat and oldies from the 1950’s 60’s and 70″ on Sundays. It began broadcasting this summer. Mary Lynn Knochelman

TONY WILLIAMS [WKY-930/KRLD-1080] (Dallas-Richardson, TX) Subject: Paltrow v. Stewart. Why would Paltrow want to be an ex-jail bird? Oh well. Martha may be suffering from dementia. Apparently the problem is Paltrow has written food books, has a food website and had a food show on PBS. So Martha is pouting. Martha apparently wants her out of the kitchen. How is Suzie?
LACY my gorgeous sweet Akita girl doggie arrives with Valerie Fox from Lone Star Akita Rescue in Greenville, TX on November 1, 2009. If you would like to adopt a really fantastic Akita doggie contact Valerie at Lone Star Akita Rescue vfox10401@aol.com or (903) 450.7707. On Friday morning 9 am, July 4, 2014 tragedy strikes when Lacy dies. Her passing completely shatters us because we are so very close. In August 2014 Valerie rescues us with another precious sweet Akita girl doggie, Suzie. Suzie is all white with a faint swirl of very light tan. Suzie says Hi!
CHARLES GEORGE [ex KCHU FM] (Dallas, TX) In High School at Samuel Speech class I decide to have a bed of music, Festive Minor, Gerry Mulligan. …want to try something I had heard on KFAD, did not realize that the music had to be balanced with the presentation. So much for the outsider that wanted to be an insider. I put a file of my violin playing on www.FiddleHangout.com as TexasFolkie. have only been playing since June the violin. know my playing is like Pavlov’s Dog. A Farmer was on his porch and a man in a car comes up to the house. The man goes, “Does this road go to Little Rock?” The Farmer, “It has not gone anywhere yet.” The man, “Have you lived here all your life?” The Farmer, “Not yet!” Charles George KC5RAI
TRIVIA ANSWER: Beginning in Febuary 1969, The Beatles’ record final album Abbey Road. Producer George Martin complains it is not at all a happy recording experience. Lennon describes the sessions as the most miserable on Earth. Harrison adds: the low of all-time. To ease tensions, Harrison invites keyboardist Billy Preston for the last nine days of sessions. On the Get Back single Preston receives label billing as the only musician ever to receive that acknowledgment on an official Beatles release.
