CAJUN COUNTRY CROONS HIS LAST Jimmy C. Newman’s first Top 10 country hit, Cry, Cry, Darling (#4), arrives in summer 1954. He joins the Grand Old Opry in 1956. In summer 1967, Jimmy has a neat tune called Back Pocket Money (#10) that I spin on KPCN-730 in my home town Dallas, TX. In 1969, he teaches me how to do the Cajun yell: Aieeeeee! Also in 1969, we enjoy his tune, Boo Dan (#31), which is a Cajun food. Ever try it? Pretty tasty stuff. The ‘C’ in Jimmy C. Newman’s name stands for Cajun. His actual middle name is Yves. Jimmy C. Newman, mainstay on the Grand Old Opry, where he performs Cajun-inspired tunes like Alligator Man (#22-1962) and Bayou Talk (#12-1963) passes away at 86 on June 21, 2014.

The investigation finds that private investigator Glenn Mulcaire obtains information by hacking 5,500 mobile phone voicemails to uncover leads for stories. Prime Minister Coulson says brilliant when a reporter plays him a hacked voicemail left for James Bond star Daniel Craig by actress Sienna Miller. The phone-hacking investigation contains numerous allegations that relate to the period between 2000 and 2006.
IS THIS THE END TO FREE TV? Remember when our homes and residential areas are a forest of television antennas on our rooftops? Do you remember? In a decision with wide-ranging implications for the television industry, the Supreme Court rules on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 that start-up streaming service, Aereo, violates copyright laws by capturing broadcast signals on miniature antennas and delivering them to subscribers for a fee. The 6-3 decision is a victory for major television networks, who argue that Aereo’s business model amounts to a theft of their programming. For now, the judges’ ruling leaves the current broadcast model intact while imperiling Aereo’s viability as a business after just over two years in existence.

TRIVIA ANSWER: Oxford, OH psychedelic Rock quintet The Lemon Pipers rank high on our list of one hit wonders with their Christmas 1967 #1 single Green Tambourine. 46 years ago it is one of several hits that I spin out to listeners in 38 states on Dallas, TX blowtorch WFAA-820. Bill Albaugh, Lemon Pipers dynamic drummer on Green Tambourine, dies on January 20th, 1999 at 53.
CHARLES GEORGE [ex KCHU FM] (Dallas, TX) Hi, Stations can talk about how much better the music was in the good ole’ days without mention of people like: Leadbelly, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Blind Willie McTell, Willie Dixon. They will think Cream and others did the music first, unless they do research. Like who would believe students from Harvard would think of cheating on a take home exam. “You can always tell a Harvard Man but you can’t tell him much.” Charles George, KC5RAI
LEAD BELLY (January 15, 1888 – December 6, 1949) Moses stood on the Red Sea shore. Smotin’ that water with a two-by-four. If I could I surely would. Stand on the rock where Moses stood.
