DAVE MICHAELS [WSAI-1360/KONO-860/KBUC FM] (Dayton-Huber Heights, OH) Subject: Tomatoes & Radio. Summer vacation 1959 I would wait until Mr. Wesoloski went to work. I climbed over the brick wall behind his garage & into his garden. I took out my trusty Barlow knife and while holding one of his beautiful Home Grown tomatoes – I would cut slices & eat them. There are no better tasting tomatoes than FREE tomatoes. I did this many times over my summer vacation. Life was good. Under the covers at night in bed I listened to radio ( WBAP – WBZ – WLS ) with my flashlight. Someday – I too was going to be on the radio. Dave Michaels KQRO KBUC KONO

TONY WILLIAMS [WKY-930/KRLD-1080] (Dallas-Richardson, TX) Subject: Kevin Metheny, KGO program director. Have you seen? Metheny and I both worked at WKY. He also programmed WNBC and many, many other large stations around the country. He is the one who fired Howard Stern.
BOB GRANT [Robert Hanger] (San Angelo-Abilene, TX) Subject: Jim Ed Brown. FYI…9/30 announcement: Jim Ed: “Some of you may have heard various rumors since I have had to cancel a few shows over the past few weekends. To clarify and put those rumors to bed, I wanted to just come out and explain what is going on. Two weeks ago, I was diagnosed with lung cancer. At that time, I was in shock and scared as I didn’t know what that really meant. After testing, the doctors have asked me to take the next 4 months off from touring and to focus on chemotherapy and radiation treatments to shrink the cancer cells. I will keep you all updated on the progress. I am forever grateful for the love, support, and prayers during this time.”

JAY WALKER (DFW-Chambersville, TX) Hi Jim! I know Len’s son Chuck quite well. I spent a number of hours helping him rebuild the place. I was chief at KRLD-FM and was able to donate a PR&E BMXIII-22 console to the station, an STL, and I did his audio processing as well. He’s the loudest cleanest 250 watt AM you’ll hear around these parts. In addition to having been talent in radio I was chief at KRLD-FM/KYNG/KJKK for 20+ years until stage 4 lymphoma took me out of the game. As I say “I’ve retired to leave the race to younger faster rats” HAHA… Again thank you for the weekly “snapshot” of the industry, your work is appreciated as well as enjoyed… 73 Jay

MIKE MARSHALL [WFAA 570/820-KPRC-950-KQUE FM] (Houston, TX) There was an ad in the Morning News for the station (WFAA 820/570) showing pictures of the air staff…except me and Rex who worked all night. I guess nights didn’t count as real radio. I remember a meeting in Charlie’s office where he said “If you guys were any good, you should be getting offers.” A week later I got a call from Buddy Holiday at KPRC. Ironically I came to KPRC to do 4-7 afternoons. I was so happy to get off nights after five years but within months they hired a new 4-7 guy from Fort Worth and bumped me back to 7-midnight. TRIVIA ANSWER: In 1967, at Alabama’s Tuskegee Institute, six students decide to merge two local bands, The Mystics and The Jays. Observers confess that one of the group members tosses a dictionary into the air. When it unfolds, he points to a word on the page and that word is Commodores.
JAY WALKER (DFW-Chambersville, TX) Jim all I can say is dogs are good judges of character so that would explain why the doggies reciprocate feelings of affection towards you They “know” what’s in your head and heart… 🙂
STANLEY COREN (January 1, 1942 – p) The greatest fear dogs know is the fear that you will not come back when you go out the door without them.
