MICHAEL O’SHEA [former KLIF-1190 PD/DJ] (Santa Rosa, CA) Subject: Hi Jim… So sad to hear of the passing of Dallas Cowboy Jethro Pugh. My first week at KLIF (1190) was the week of the Ice Bowl in Green Bay and I became a huge Cowboy fan. KLIF was the flagship station of the Cowboys, with Bill Mercer the PBP guy. I attended every single home game at The Cotton Bowl in ’68-’69 and ’70. Jethro was part of that magical era with Bullet Bob Hayes (#22), Mel Renfro (#20), Don Meredith (#17) and young Craig Morton (#14). George Andrie and I played golf together a few times. Oh, Lance Rentzel (#19) served as the coach of the KLIF touch football team in those days too, with QB/PD Ken Dowe and a bunch of our record guy friends. Later we hired Lance’s brother-in-law, Dickie Heatherton (Joey’s Brother), as midday jock. Shortly after that Lance got himself in some well-publicized trouble. I liked him a lot…plus he gave us a bunch of the famous “Duke” NFL footballs from the Cowboy’s kicking bag. Something tells me that Jerry’s boys of today don’t mix that way with the local radio jocks Happy New Year, Jim. Michael O’Shea; President Sonoma Media Group; Santa Rosa, CA
DICKIE HEATHERTON Yes, in 1972 one day when I’m a newscaster on Heatherton’s mid-day KLIF-1190 DJ show he lets me know that he is Joey Heatherton’s brother. Dickie is the son of Big Band leader Ray Heatherton, and brother of singer/actress Joey Heatherton. Dickie appears on TV as announcer on The New Tic Tac Dough (1978) plus The (New) $25,000 Pyramid (1973) game shows. Dickie Heatherton spends 14 years on ABC-TV’s General Hospital.

JIM MCCURDY [ex KORQ FM DJ, KTAB-TV news anchor] (Austin-Cedar Park, TX) Hey Jim, Here’s wishing you and Miss Suzie a wonderful 2015! Thanks for all that you do on JRR news. I’m looking for an RCA 44B ribbon mic! Loved using that mic when I was on the air back in the day. I have a 77DX that’s in great shape that I still use for voice over work, and wanted to add to my collection. Let me know if you hear of one that is available. Thanks, Jim McCurdy
TRIVIA ANSWER: Singer, guitarist, songwriter and one of Rock and Roll’s earliest pioneers Chuck Berry’s birth name is Charles Edward Anderson Berry. Chuck’s Rockin’ tunes Maybellene (#5-1955), Roll Over Beethoven (#29-1956), School Days (#3-1957), Rock and Roll Music (#8-1957), Sweet Little Sixteen (#2 for 3 weeks-1958) and Johnny B. Goode (#8-1958) keep us fans jumping to the beat. In 1972, Chuck hits us with a very popular novelty tune My Ding-A-Ling (#1 for 2 weeks-1972) that sells over a half million copies.
DON SUNDEEN [DJ/Hi Records promotion/TV ad prod] (Dallas, TX) Sending this to folks I think are interested about the internal workings of a country that has for years played the mighty U.S. like a yo-yo. We’ve seen our highest ranking officials kissing the King’s cheeks and walking hand in hand with him, while petitioning for lower oil prices or more production. Meanwhile in their Wahhabi schools the children are being taught that the U.S. is the Great Satan and should embrace Islam. Oh, and everyone of the airplane high jackers on 9/11 were Saudi citizens, and we invaded Iraq. Anyway, this gives you an idea of how the Saudi leadership has trickled down from one predominate family, and how they’re running out of players.
SAM KINISON (December 8, 1953 – April 10, 1992 ) I don’t worry about terrorism. I was married for two years.
