NBC MULLS WHAT TO DO WITH BRIAN WILLIAMS Brian Williams’ buddy, Andy Lack, chairman of NBC News, asks coworkers to think creatively about a new role for Williams. Maybe he can file news reports to try to regain viewers’ trust. Or he can exit NBC News’ glass doors altogether. If so, Brian Williams can make off with a huge chunk of his contract, which he signs at the end of 2014 for about $10 million a year for five years. A settlement might assure NBC that Williams won’t publicly criticize the network.

ROBERT MILLER [Eastern Michigan University Professor] (Detroit/Plymouth, MI) My old man worked at KITE (970) as a news guy…got a bank robbery interview as it was happening. Got an AP award for that one. That was about 1964 or so. He also did a night show on WOAI (1200) late 50’s, worked KENS RADIO in 57 when Charlie Walker was just a DJ. He was working as news director at KTSA (550) prior to McClendon becoming owner. Did a lot of voice work for Claude Aniol Agency and VW for 5 states. He had great pipes. He was also an engineer and we had a studio at home. I came on scene around 66 in Uvalde and went to KBUC (106.3) when John Woody was ND. Did weekends as booth announcer at KONO TV and was there when KSAT took over. Did a year in the transit tower at KEEZ (now KJ 97). Sure do miss those days. It’s your (newsletter) that keeps them alive for me and the many others that can’t wait for the next edition of JRRR! Bob

CHARLES GEORGE [KC5RAI – ex KCHU FM] (Dallas, TX) Subject: Will Sing In The Sunshine. I always like Gale Garnett, Will Sing In The Sunshine. I think it would be fun to have her with Crystal Gayle. I think their styles would complement each other in a program. I think for me it is the quality of the performance, and some maybe good but not fit with others, like I always found KPYK had a better continuity of sound compared to KAAM. But I actually listen more to 100.3-2. For country music I have been enjoying KGVL 1400. A local musician that is good at both Country and Jazz is Mark Deffebach. I have heard him with Dave Burris, LA Pompe, Blackland River Devils, and Jumpbilly Trio. I think Radio would be better if not having the same programming as Chicago, New York, Los Angeles but did more local programming. But I am not a professional broadcaster, only an amateur and an SWL. Radio for me is best when offering material not easily found elsewhere.
