YES, CHRIS SQUIRE IS NO LONGER WITH US In 1968, consummate bass guitarist Chris Squire and singer Jon Anderson form legendary British Progressive Rock group Yes. Our favorite Yes tune is 1971’s Roundabout (#13) from their fourth studio album, Fragile, with new keyboardist Rick Wakeman. Earlier this year, Chris’ medical diagnosis of Acute Erythroid Leukemia forces him to leave Yes for the first time in 47 years. On Saturday night, June 27, 2015 Chris Squire passes away at 67 in Phoenix, AZ. (www.yesworld.com/)

FOX AXES RADICAL TALK HOST Love him or hate him, Fox News’ The Five left leaning suspenders-clad political commentator Bob Beckel maybe bites off more than he can chew. Since February, 16, 2015 Beckel is missing from The Five table. Where is Bob Beckel? Fox News confirms on Thursday that The Five co-host Bob Beckel enters a rehab facility to treat his addiction to prescription pain medication. Guess what? According to Nielsen Research, The Five ratings leap 8% since Beckel’s exit.
HOUSTON, TX SMASHES ATOM Three time’s a charm, but for Houston, TX radio personality Atom Smasher his second Space City tour lasts much shorter than his first. From 1998 to 2006 Atom Smasher rises from the dust of evenings on CHR KRBE FM (104.1) to exciting afternoons but in 2005 he hits his stride in mornings until his atom smashes. In January 2014, Atom Smasher and co-host Shawnda McNeal attack mornings on CBS Hot AC KHMX FM (Mix 96.5). After just 18 months Friday, June 26, 2015 is their final show.
COX LAUNCHES BIGGEST COUNTRY SIGNAL IN SOUTHEAST With 200,000 watts of power, Media Group flips Alternative WTSH FM (X107.1) Aragon, GA/W296BB FM Jonesboro/Atlanta, GA to Country. This flip gives The Big Peach its fourth Country station to join iHeartMedia’s WUBL FM (The Bull 94.9) and Cumulus’ duo of WKHX FM (Kicks 101.5) and W255CJ FM (98.9). WNGC FM’s launch on 107.1 brings longtime Atlanta morning host and former Houston, TX air personality Moby back to the market’s air waves.

FRANK HALEY [KDAZ-730 newscaster – ex KLIF-1190, KILT-610, KTRH-950, KVIL FM & KOB-770] (Albuquerque, NM) I’m 75 years old, started DJ’ing at 19 in 1960, moved into news at 25, and I am still working, not full time, part time reading morning news on a Christian station in Albuquerque, NM. Worked all over Texas, Denton, Gainesville, Nacogdoches, Tyler, Dallas, Houston, and then out here to Albuquerque in 1977. Worked for 14 radio stations in 55 years. It’s been a great ride. Hope to keep working till Jesus calls me Home. Here are the stations I have worked for KDNT, KCPA, KGAF, KEEE, KDOK, KTBB, KVIL, KLIF, KILT, KTRH, KOB, KFLQ, KKIM, KDAZ. It’s changed a lot, but I still like what I’m doing. Have a blessed day. I’m thankful to still be able to work. Frank Haley cjf

BUD BUSCHARDT [WFAA TV CH 8 Director, ABC sat radio DJ] (Dallas, TX) Subject: Look What I Found. Jim, How long has it been since you saw one of these? Did not realize that you and Mike Marshall were at WFAA at the same time. I can understand how Ralph could be rude. I don’t recall him being rude to me because I was a television director and he saw that we used radio guys to voice our commercials or promos sometimes. Television was a dream for some of the radio people. Bud
WFAA-820/570 After I exit noon-3 pm as DJ on KPCN-730 Dallas, TX in August 1967, Charley Van places me as all night DJ on WFAA-570 in the tiny studio. Mike Marshall is 7 pm-midnight on WFAA-820 in the large up front studio. After awhile, Mike complains that he rather be on all nights and will I switch? Oh yes, because all nights is very difficult for me.
TONY WILLIAMS [WKY-930/KRLD-1080] (Dallas-Richardson, TX) Subject: Rivers. Sense of self: At the age of 47, producer Melissa Rivers is trying to find her identity, something that was always wrapped up in her famous mother, Joan Rivers. “It’s going to take me some time to find my voice. I’m still working on that.” Los Angeles Times. Tony

PHIL ROBBINS [KEEZ FM, KVIC FM, KAYC-1450, KZEU FM, KKBH FM, KNAL FM] (Victoria, TX) Hi Jim, While at SAC, Bill Balleza put in a good word for me to Teddy Stecker and Lowell Huffman at KEEZ-FM. I got the job and was there about a year. I took a job at KVIC in Victoria aug 1971 and was there from 71-73. In 1973 I took a job at KAYC with Al Caldwell. It just didn’t work out, so back to Victoria and to KVIC. I was PD/OM there and left in 1982 to go across town to the new competition KZEU. In 1985 I helped start a new FM KKBH, better known as 93 On The Beach. I was VP of Crossroads Broadcasting Inc as well. It was sold in 1987 and it became Classic Rock V-93. Then, finally in 1989 I again helped start up an oldies station, the FM side of KNAL in Victoria. I gave it all up in 1991. Now get this, I go from inside the radio studios to outdoors. I worked for Texas Parks & Wildlife Dept until 2000. Retired now, but I sure miss those good old days in radio. Phil Robbins

GENTLEMAN JIM CARTER [KCBQ/KNUS/WFAA/KONO/KLIF/KXOL/KBUC] (San Antonio, TX) Jim: The title “Gentleman” Jim came from “Big” Mike Scott of KCBQ fame. Mike hired me while I was stationed at Camp Pendleton MCB in 1968 to do weekends. It was because of my southern accent that Mike referred to me over an intro on the air that “Gentleman Jim will be on tonight at ten”…and the rest as they say is history. GJC
YES [Roundabout 1971] I’ll be the roundabout. The words will make you out ‘n’ out. I spend the day your way.
