AMERICANS’ TRUST IN THE MEDIA ERODES Americans’ trust in the media remains historically low. Since 1998 and 1999 Americans’ confidence in the media slowly erodes from a high of 55% to a new low of 40%. Prior to 2004, many Americans say they trust the mass media, such as newspapers, TV and radio. Media Confidential reports: A new Gallup Poll indicates that four in 10 Americans say they have ‘a great deal’ or ‘a fair amount’ of trust and confidence in the mass media to report the news fully, accurately and fairly.

JACK PARNELL [former Program Director WHBQ-560] (Memphis, TN) Jim: yes, i remember his Dallas work at KLIF (1190)…we could pick them up here at night, and I used to say that if I ever got an offer from KLIF I would NOT turn it down. they were one of the best known radio stations in the U.S. I remember that there people leaving stations in L.A. and other big markets to go to KLIF. Interestingly, I did get an offer, but turned it down! I was PD at WHBQ at the time, and told the PD from KLIF who called me that I need an afternoon drive man, so I said: “Do YOU want a job?” I haven’t had a chance to “catch up” with Ken (Dowe), but am looking forward to it. Thanks again for putting us in touch. JP

TOM ELLIS [KONO-860/KONO TV] (Boston-Cape Cod-East Sandwich, MA) Hi, Jim and Suzie, Looks like a hurricane could be heading up this way. Right now we’re in gale force winds with torrential rain. Third day of gale force winds and sheets of rain. Forecasts telling us not to expect any sun till next Wednesday. My family from Cincinnati and the Queen and I have been “confined” to this old house. Not good to be “confined” for 3 days with a one year old rambunctious boy. Hope the winds don’t increase too much more, or they’ll close down the bridges over the Cape Cod Canal. God help us, PLEASE. Tom
