WHERE IS THE TELEVISION CODE? Remember from the 1950s to the 1970s at the end of newscasts and programs we see The Television Code seal which sets ethical standards adopted by the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) for television? We no longer see the Television Code seal because in 1983 after a settlement with the Justice Department, they suspend the Television Code seal. Hence, we now see the use of profanity, irreverence for God and religion, plus detailed techniques of crime on TV.

DAVE MICHAELS [former WSAI-1360/KONO-860/KBUC FM] (Dayton-Huber Heights, OH) Subject: JIM – radio is in my Blood. JIM, Wow – you’re a one finger! I worked with old timers in the 80’s – radio station news rooms that used ONLY two fingers to type their stories And they were FAST at it. I come in with a coffee, and the old guy – would say Dave do me a favor Change the AP ribbon. GOD I hated that – ink on me or get another ream of paper out of the closet. Dave

JAY WALKER [CBS Radio Dallas/KJKK FM/Infinity KTSA-550/KTFM FM/Own Jay Walker Prod/40 Plus Years In Radio] (Dallas-McKinney, TX) Subject: Good songs, great music. Good morning Jim and Suzie, The martiniinthemorning.com reference reminded me of an HD-2 service on which I am still ‘the voice’ as far as I know. It’s 100.3 HD-2 in Dallas. Back when ‘HD’ was first launched in the Dallas market a good CBS programming friend Kurt Johnson had the idea of putting on a format which focused on “The Rat Pack” era. We called it “The Sound of The Strip”. In addition to the vocals we play all those great classic instrumentals you just don’t hear anymore. The payoff was out of all the HD-2 streams CBS had on the air, “The Strip” as we called it was the only one where if it hiccupped in the slightest would we hear about it from listeners. Yes ‘listeners’ as in plural. I was told that ‘The Strip” was one of the highest rated HD-2 streams in Dallas and had great internet listening numbers. I know that the ‘Music of Your Life’ formats have come and gone on AM, however from my experience in Dallas with this format, some AM owners should ponder this type of music and delivery style rather than yet another Spanish EPSN placeholder or 5th tier squawker… My best to you as always. Jay Walker

CHARLES GEORGE [KC5RAI – ex KCHU FM] (Dallas, TX) Subject: Feeling a bit looped. Been staying near the radio. I noticed 1160 had a loop telling persons to tune to 620, News/Talk. Also noticed a station with pop music on 940, with talk about Texarkana. 940 is a good frequency to check propagation, since often it is held down by a Mexican Station, but also heard a Gospel station calling themselves the “Wild One”.
TRIVIA ANSWER: On Sunday, October 11, 1936 the first radio quiz show, Professor Quiz, premiers. The Professor Quiz program premiers on WJSV-1500 (later WTOP) in Washington D.C. CHUCK DUNAWAY [ex WABC-770, WKY-930, KILT-610, KLIF-1190] (Houston-Katy, TX) Kendall has me wearing Texans Jersey number 99…that is JJ Watts number…problem is everyone thinks I’m JJ…I barely get a chance to eat because of all the autograph seekers…Love to all…go Texans. Chuck
DAVID HEMMINGS (November 18, 1941 – December 3, 2003) I don’t mind autograph hunters when I go down to the fish and chip shop. As long as I get my chips.
