JACK PARNELL [former Program Director WHBQ-560] (Memphis, TN) Jim: You may already know about this special place, but I didn’t until today; my friend Johnny Wofford called me, then sent it to me. The entire program is about 3 hours long, maybe a little longer, but it’s well worth taking the time to watch it all. I was among some of it, and knew/know most of the people involved. I don’t hope you’ll like it… I KNOW you’ll LOVE it! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tYcadYXsTyM&sns=em) Jack Parnell-former WHBQ jock/program director.

MIKE SHILOH [ex Houston News/Talk on KFNC FM, KTRH-740, KNUZ-1230] (Houston, TX) Hi Jim! Sorry to hear about your computer crashing; I’ve had that happen several times over the years and, as my kids say, it sucks. Now you have my email address again. I did move out to Florida for while (had to, no Houston or even Texas area jobs that I could find back then!) but I’m back in Houston. Thank you for checking, I really appreciated your kind words when I had to make the move and leave my wife and kids here in Houston. I hope you and Suzie are doing well and I continue to check in with “Jim Rose Remembers Radio!” Best, Mike Shiloh

CHUCK DUNAWAY [ex WABC-770, WKY-930, KILT-610, KLIF-1190] (Houston-Katy, TX) Subject: truth is stranger than fiction…sometimes. Who was dying to get on Cavett’s talk show? J. I. Rodale was the creator of the popular health magazine called Prevention. In 1971 at the age of 72, he appeared on the Dick Cavett show, where he boasted in front of cameras that doctors had given him only six months to live 30 years ago. Because of his healthy lifestyle espoused in his magazine, he was sure he’d live to be 100. Later in the show it appeared as if he had fallen asleep on the set, and Cavett chuckled about it, until he realized the man was dead. The show never aired.
TRIVIA ANSWER: On May 13, 1897, Guglielmo Marconi born April 25, 1874 in Palazzo Marescalchi, Bologna, Italy sends the first ever wireless communication over open sea. Based in Wales, a message over the Bristol Channel from Flat Holm Island to Lavernock Point in Penarth, a distance of 6 kilometers (3.7 mi). The message is Are you ready?
CHARLES GEORGE [KC5RAI – ex KCHU FM] (Dallas, TX) My father had me go to Radio Shack at the Medallion Shopping Center in 1963. I bought a recording of Rite Of Spring, Stravinsky. They put my name in a drawing and I won a 9-transistor pocket radio. My mother said Radio Shack knew what they were doing. I was amazed at what I could hear, especially at night. I use to enjoy Library Of Laughs on WRR 1310, and at night WLAC 1510 with their R&B/ Blues programming. I like that AM will get through when other communications go down. I just find AM stations harder to hear, like KBEC 1390 use to put in a solid signal into South East Dallas but now you have to be almost to the edge of Dallas to hear it. I am not sure whether it is my lack of hearing or the station not maintaining their equipment to the same quality level.
DR. FRANKENSTEIN [Mary Shelley’s mad scientist] More power Egor.
