LIVE365 GOES DARK Very popular Internet radio hosting platform Live365 lays off most of its staff and vacates its office space. Why is this? Live365 says: the changing royalties, especially with the expiration of the Webcaster Settlement Act of 2009, coupled with the loss of long-time investors were the reasons for the shutdown. RAIN News reports that Live365 will shut down its operations on January 31, 2016. Live365 email to 5,000 customers reads: We are sad that we are closing our doors at the end of this month.

DAVE MICHAELS [former WSAI-1360/KONO-860/KBUC FM] (Dayton-Huber Heights, OH) Subject: Ray Scott story. JIM … excellent version of my LONG story about Ray. You did him justice! I often think about Ray and things he told me. Right now we have 17 degrees, wind chill 9 degrees above 0… and another 3 inches of new snow. Happy New Year! Dave

BILL HILL [ex KRBE FM] (Kemah, TX) Subject: Hal McClain crash. I especially recall Ric Libby doing the on air tribute. I think that was on Monday, following the crash. It’s good to hear from you. I’m a faithful reader. At 83, with advanced COPD, among other health issues, my mobility is somewhat limited. So, I’m grateful for every day. Best wishes, Bill

JAY WALKER [KJKK FM/KTSA-550/KTFM FM/Own Jay Walker Prod/40 Plus Years In Radio] (Dallas/Fort Worth, TX) Subject: The give and take. Jim When we were young ‘Life’ was constantly ‘giving’ to us. As we get older it seems ‘Life’ is ‘taking’ away those gifts. Recently many ‘gifts’ such as Glen Frey, David Bowie, and our dear friends in media have been called home at this stage in our lives. Each made their mark in our lives which is why they are missed but I tell you Jim, this ‘old age’ stuff ain’t for sissys for sure. My best to you and Suzie… Jay Walker

FR BOB TOMLINSON [ex KXYL-1240, KIOX-1270] (Jacksonville-Lake Striker, TX) Subject: I Was A DJ When DJs Jockied Discs… And I Don’t Mean CDs. Jim it was KXYL Brownwood. They added the fm the week I left. Management decisions concerning the fm were a big reason I left. I was with KIOX from 1970 to 72. My dad talked me into going to college in Dallas is why I left there. KIOX was interesting in that it was three tower directional and protected KFJZ in Fort Worth. We reached Houston and I was offered a chance to work at KIKK but my wife who I still have, spent a little time in Houston growing up and really did not want to live there again. KIOX fm came later with new owners. Edna is not far from Bay City. Bob
