JACK PARNELL [ex WHBQ-560 PD/DJ] (Memphis, TN) Subject: Johnny Dark. You’re so right, Jim…this seems to be a bad year for us older radio people. John Dougherty…the Johnny Dark I mentioned, was very nervous about being inducted into the Tennessee Radio Hall of Fame…he was afraid he wouldn’t live long enough, but he did make it. He’s had 5 heart surgeries, about 3 or 4 cancer surgeries, and has come thru them all. He attended the TRHoF festivities 2 years ago, after having just gotten out of the hospital the day before. Good guy, well deserving! JP

ED MILLER [former OM KPCN-730] (Austin, TX) Subject: (email to Bill Bragg) KPCN-730 Reunion. Yeah, I was Ed Milton, the son of Giles who had the backdoor office, and I think you are correct that you and I did not have a chance to meet back then. I was with KPCN from the very beginning in 1961, and thought I had been there until the bitter end, but I now believe not. Apparently I left in about ’67, so there are several surviving KPCN alumni I did not work with before the sale of the station went through, including you and Jay Weaver. I was Operations Manager at the end of my tenure, and evidently Jim Rose was the last one I hired. Ed
TRIVIA ANSWER: When Rock group The Doors appear on The Ed Sullivan Show on September 17, 1967, he asks them to change the line Girl, we couldn’t get much higher in their hit Light My Fire. Lead singer Jim Morrison agrees, but he sings the offending words anyway. That leads to a lifetime ban from the The Ed Sullivan Show.
BILL BRAGG [ex KPCN-730 DJ – Voice of BIG TEX] (Dallas-Richardson, TX) Subject: (email to Ed Miller) KPCN-730 Reunion. Hey Ed! I may have seen you in person shortly after I got out of High School. I had a 57 Chevy with a CB Radio, and back in 1965 I was listening to KPCN instead of KLIF (like all the other kids)! When I heard that you Guys were doing a live Remote at the Sears Gas Station/Tire Store at Valley View Mall on LBJ, I was there to watch! I think that may have been you rolling-up cable and carrying a loud speaker?? Can’t wait to see you (again?) and meet Jim Rose! So please keep me informed and feel to share our conversion with Jim! Bill Bragg 47 years in Radio & TV Broadcasting; The Voice of BIG TEX 2002-2012 The State Fair of Texas (www.billbragg.com) / (www.yesterdayusa.com)
PIERRE TEILHARD DE CHARDIN (May 1, 1881 – April 10, 1955) The history of the kingdom of God is, directly, one of a reunion. The total divine milieu is formed by the incorporation of every elected spirit in Jesus Christ.
