SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE TAKES OVER CHRISTIE’S OFFICE Chris Christie, once one of Republican Party’s brightest stars, virtually assured a position in a Donald Trump administration. Instead, after he loses the VP slot, Christie also loses leadership of Trump’s presidential transition team. CBS New York reports that WNYM-970 (The Answer) New York, NY host and Saturday Night Live alumnus Joe Piscopo strongly hints that he just might run to succeed Chris Christie as governor of New Jersey in 2017.
FOX SUPER BOWL LI SPOTS COST MORE THAN $5M In 2014, NBC asks $4.5 million for Super Bowl commercials. It takes until just a few days before its 2015 broadcast of Super Bowl XLIX to sell out its inventory. According to Variety, Fox wants to push the cost of advertising in Super Bowl LI up to more than $5 million per 30-second spot, which sets a new record. One Variety source, who is familiar with the negotiations, tells the paper that Fox Sports in some cases seeks $5.6 million or higher.

JAY WALKER [CBS Radio Dallas/KJKK FM/Infinity KTSA-550/KTFM FM/Own Jay Walker Prod/Jay Walker Competitive Audio consultant 40 Plus Years In Radio] (Ft. Worth-Hurst, TX) Subject: AT&T – Time Warner merger. Merging the two largest internet/cable TV companies will not do any good for the consumer for several reasons. When a company is the only game in town there’s no reason to improve performance or rates. As I said… “…monopolies stifle technology which is why the US does not even show up in the top 10 list of average internet connection speeds. We rank BELOW ‘techno giants’ Romania, Mongolia, Peru, Mexico, and so many others. Our average peak connection speed in the US is 57.3mb which 20% of the US can achieve compared to Singapore where it’s 135.7mb.” The previous paragraph should piss you off. The US ranks BELOW Romania!!!! And it’s all because lack of competition has killed the incentive to be ‘better’.

JOANIE GREEN [KPRC TV CH 2, KZEW FM, KFWD FM, KNOK FM, KAUM FM, KILT FM, KNUZ-1230, Metro Traffic, Houston Taping for the Blind] (Tulsa, OK) Hi Jim, I spent 17 years at CH 2, KPRC. I started out in the newsroom on the assignments desk, then was asked to be newsroom secretary. I went with Stone when he was cutting back and was doing the Ron Stone Show and moved out of the newsroom into the Production Dept. I was then given a chance to write and produce “Houston Country Tracks” for the station and we had musical acts coming in every week. I also wrote and produced segments for “Teenz on TV” and “The Eyes of Texas.” Then, when Post-Newsweek took over, I was almost out of a job. I was brought back from the Jaws of Unemployment by being offered the Engineering Secretary job, which I took. That was when we were going through the changeover from an analog to digital signal and our division was one hopping department trying to make that happen smoothly. We were one of the nation’s early stations to do that because of the size of the market and how the FCC was starting the rollout of markets by size. I remember helping coordinate the buying of over 80 monitors for the newsroom’s back wall. Even though I don’t work there anymore, I’m still a member of “The Channel 2 Crew” and get newsletters and they have a picnic every year that I’m invited to…one of these years I’m going back to go to it! I just like keeping up with them and still being included. Take care and talk with you soon. Joan
