ALL THE NEWS THAT IS NEWS
WHO’S ON FIRST This week, Megyn Kelly bolts Fox News Channel to move across Manhattan’s Sixth Avenue to NBC News. Kelly’s contract at Fox not due to expire for another six months. Her last show on Fox airs Friday, January 6, 2017. Then, word comes from the Hollywood Reporter that Greta Van Susteren who exits Fox News several months ago, shortly after the ouster of news boss Roger Ailes, heads to MSNBC. The 62-year old Van Susteren will host For the Record from Washington, DC in the 6 to 7pm hour.

CARLSON TRUMPS MEGYN CNN veteran Tucker Carlson certainly can relate to all of this week’s Cable Network changes. Carlson who takes over Van Susteren’s hour on Fox News receives good news that he moves on up to the 9pm anchor shift on Fox News Channel next week to fill Megyn Kelly’s now empty spot. Before Megyn sits in the NBC News anchor chair, she has to wait out a no compete clause in her Fox contract that runs out in six months.
MARTHA TAKES OVER TUCKER’S THRONE In November 2016, Conservative journalist Tucker Carlson moves to the 7 pm spot after longtime Fox anchor Greta Van Susteren exits. Next week, after Fox News moves Carlson into star anchor Megyn Kelly’s timeslot, according to The NY Times, Martha MacCallum, co-anchor of Fox News’s morning news show America’s Newsroom, succeeds Carlson at 7 pm. Suzie and I think that Martha MacCallum is cute as a button.

JOANIE GREEN [KPRC TV CH 2, KZEW FM, KFWD FM, KNOK FM, KAUM FM, KILT FM, KNUZ-1230, Metro Traffic, Houston Taping for the Blind] (Tulsa, OK) Hi Jim, I worked for KILT-FM for a couple of years while it was still R’n’R. I started doing traffic for Traffic Central with Beth Eldridge; also worked for Metro Traffic. Between the two, I got to do traffic for every radio station in town (at one time or another). I did traffic part time in addition to full time radio work. Take care and talk with you soon. Joan

BUD BUSCHARDT [WFAA TV CH 8 Director, KVIL FM, WFAA-570, ABC sat radio DJ] (Dallas, TX) Jim, I did the first oldies show in DFW before Oldies Stations even existed. 57 Nostalgia Place aired on WFAA (AM) from 1973 until 1976 when 570 went from “Musicradio” to “Talk Radio”. There are clips and even complete shows on the internet. Check Google if you are curious. I was first to do “thematic” oldies shows..a stable for oldies DJ’s now. I show my college students clips from Art Vuolo’s “History of the American DJ”. (It is on YouTube). They cannot believe that radio was ever that much fun! Like you, I remember the good old days of radio and am sad they will never return. (Bring back analog, turntables, records, and carts!) Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Bud

CHUCK DUNAWAY (ex WABC-770, KLIF-1190, KILT-610) (Houston-Katy, TX) Subject: channel 4 teardown. Some of the very best memories of my broadcast career were at this fabulous facility (WKY TV now KFOR TV). After about five hours of taping the Adventure segments for Foreman Scotty…I’d grab a bite to eat before heading up stairs to go on the air for my afternoon radio slot (WKY-930)…great memories and at the time it was happening, being on TV was magic. Saturday mornings my kids would have many of their friends lined up to meet “Hog Waller” at our house…great days for collecting memories… Chuck
TRIVIA ANSWER: On December 29, 1963 at 12:50 pm WMCA-570 is first New York radio station to play The Beatles’ I Want to Hold Your Hand.
CHARLES GEORGE [KC5RAI – ex KCHU FM] (Dallas, TX) I find that in the day have been enjoying Country Music from KAND 1340 and KGVL 1400. I find the small market stations often more interesting. I wish the stations that moved in as Rim Shots would go back to the towns they were originally licensed to serve. I do have a minor problem another Amateur Radio Operator was pretending to be me. He was making fun of the fact that I mentioned I was dealing with loss of hearing and looking for a good set of headphones. Though why make fun of me, I am just a Tech, and do not have the knowledge of others, I am still learning so as to have a better operation. Now I am thinking of a song: WOLD. 73, Charles, KC5RAI
JACK BENNY (February 14, 1894 to December 26, 1974) Hors D’oeuvre: A ham sandwich cut into forty pieces.
