CONNELL MILLER (Bella Vista, AR) Subject: The passing of a disc jockey… Hi Jim. Hope you’re doing well and I wish you a great 2017! Just wanted to pass along the death today (1/31) of long-time country music disc jockey and promoter, Jim Kizzia (KMUS , KBIX ), at age 84 in Muskogee, Oklahoma. He started in radio working for us at KMUS in Muskogee (OK) in the 1960s, with two board shifts a day playing country music (back when country WAS country!). Besides spinning platters, he was also good at spinning tales about his genre’s music biz and the people in it and was a regular feature at national disc jockey and country music conventions. I sure didn’t mind one bit taking over his shows on the few occasions when he was out of town or sick and I got to play Buck Owens, Lefty Frizzell and Ray Price instead of our main, non-rocking middle-of-the-road programming. JOANIE GREEN [KPRC TV CH 2, KZEW FM, KFWD FM, KNOK FM, KAUM FM, KILT FM, KNUZ-1230, Metro Traffic, Houston Taping for the Blind] (Tulsa, OK) Hi Jim! Yes, to answer your question, I did work at KFWD (FM). I worked there right after leaving the Zoo (KZEW FM). I was working part time at the Zoo and I was offered a full-time job at KFWD doing either 6-midnight or 7-midnight (I don’t remember which) and I worked there from late ’74 into ’76. And yes, you’re right about the station being a trailer ~ only it was 2 trailer houses on 360 just south of 183 as folks were beginning construction on DFW. One trailer was for sales and administration and the other was for operations. I used to grit my teeth as the SurTran buses would come to roost on the property at night because they made the turntables rumble and skip as the buses passed by to park. Joan

If you’re interested, he’s looking for someone to take his place. It’s at St Anthony’s Church, Revere, MA at 3pm. Her name is Connie. She’s 5’6, about 130lbs, and she’s a good cook, too. She’ll be the one in the white dress. (www.chuckdunawaydj.com/)
